During the last thirty years, I have been asked, “Ned, from which university did you receive your sandwich engineering degree?” Maybe that isn’t exactly how they asked it, but they were curious to know what led me into the sandwich business. Being something of an extemporaneous thinker -- some call this flying by the seat of my pants -- I’ve given different stories to make the real story sound a little more interesting. However, in the interest of truth, I have recorded here those events in my life that led to the establishment known as Ned’s Krazy Sub.

In April of 1977, I was working as a salesman for a food company. I liked food and was really a good salesman—partly because I loved and believed in my product, but mostly because I was so handsome! During this time, I decided that food should be a part of my life and my career—because I really was good with food.

After graduating with honors from the University of Bon Appétit, I opened up a sandwich shop in Mesa at the Broadway and Harris intersection. This was a great internship, but I soon realized that people really enjoyed my sandwiches and so I expanded. During the last thirty years, I’ve had many different restaurants at various locations in Mesa, Arizona. Thirty years later, I’m Senior Manager of the Sandwich Engineering Department within the Ned’s Krazy Sub Corporation. I love my job and I think that I am good at it—partly because I love and believe in my product, but mostly because I am so handsome!

Now we have two shops with great service and quality. We've served thousands of patrons. We've adjusted the menu. We've even changed locations to make our service better. Members of my family have all worked in the all business; my sweetheart, Arlene, was most supportive when we started the business thirty years ago. She helped train my children to work in the business. I currently have four of my children still working for me.

I have learned a lot about life and business in thirty years. I love what I do and am grateful for our loyal customers.

These are my favorite sandwiches and the way I fix them:
